Adelaide Strikers v Perth Scorchers ? Big Bash League, 2012/13 ? Live Cricket Score and Match Update ? Scorchers make it to semis with 98-run win
A composed half-century from Shaun Marsh led the Perth Scorchers to a comprehensive 98-run victory over the Adelaide Strikers at the Adelaide Oval today on January 10, securing them a spot in the semi-finals of the ongoing Big Bash League.
The match kicked off with the Scorchers winning the toss and choosing to bat first, and the team went on to do full justice to the decision, despite the restrictive efforts of Kane Richardson (4-0-42-2), Shaun Tait (4-0-36-1), and Brad Young (4-0-28-1).
Player of the Match Marsh anchored the innings at the top with a solid 79 off 60, and was joined by fellow opener Herschelle Gibbs (54) for a partnership worth 95 runs. The stand came to an end with the dismissal of Gibbs off Young in the 13th over, but Adam Voges (36) teamed up with Marsh for a 62-run second-wicket stand.
Their combined efforts got the team up to 157, after which Voges was sent packing by Tait, and the 19th over saw Richardson taking both Marsh and wicketkeeper batsman Tom Triffitt (0) out of the game, leaving the Scorchers at 178 for 4. Some final contributions from Nathan Coulter-Nile (3*) and Marcus North (7*) saw the team posting a formidable final total of 189 by the end of 20 overs.
The visitors then proceeded to seal the deal with an intense bowling performance, and all five bowlers in the attack managed to pick up at least one scalp each, while Alfonso Thomas (3.3-0-14-3) and Nathan Coulter-Nile (3-0-13-3) led the attack, with Michael Beer (4-0-14-2) bringing up the rear.
The Strikers underwent a complete batting order collapse, with only four batsmen ? Tim Ludeman (11), Callum Ferguson (13), skipper Johan Botha (17), and Kane Richardson (20) ? managing to move beyond single digits. The rest gave their wickets away cheaply, and Michael Klinger and Nathan Reardon were particularly disappointing, with both batsmen walking back to the pavilion on duck.
Within 19 overs, the visitors managed to cut the Strikers off, all out, at 91, and the Perth Scorchers went on to qualify for the BBL semis with a massive 98-run win.
